Roof Rails or No Roof Rails
Just wanted to get your guys opinions. Do no roof rails make the X5 look more or less sport, classy, M-ish, taller, smaller. I Ordered mine without them but now Im having second thoughts.

personally I think it looks like the car is missing something without them. I was luck to see one at the dealership before I place my order

get them! you will regret not having them the one time a year that you will need them, like for a xmas tree.
contary to what was said above, it looks more sporty with them. |

I think it depends on your set up already on the X or if you plan to do anything else later.
Eg if your running standard spec wheels no body kit etc then it can look odd IMHO. I did it with my old one but it had a full ACS body kit exhaust suspension and ACS 22 wheels and I think it really made the car look much sportier. On the E70 I think if you have the 21s and a body kit then I would say yes it would look sportier. I did take mine off for a look and I liked it.... As for xmas trees - buy a plastic one in a box or get it delivered !!

Assuming you have no functional need for them, it is purely a matter of personal taste. I myself would pay $100 to have them left off, as I think the vehicle looks better. As another minor side benefit, is a little easier to wash and wax. The absence of roof rails also theoretically improves MPG a very minor amount, but not to any noticeable amount, unless cross rails are left in place.

Your opinion is all that matters.
But, since you asked, I think it looks better with the roof rails. I wouldn't get one without them. |

SUV's without roof racks look like minivans or vans to me. But, like what ppl have stated, it's a matter of personal preference.
As far as being easier to wash the car without them, I don't think that's the case at all. When I wash my X5, I stand on the running boards and grab onto the roof racks to wash the roof of the car. Without the roof racks, I don't know what I would grab for leverage. Also, to add the roof racks when you place your BMW order, it's only around $100. To add it after you take delivery, I hear it's nearly $1000 because the whole interior roof/liner has to be taken off. So, it's safer to just get it. Because, you don't want to omit it and regretting it later on. I just can't imagine any real reason not to have it though. |
