Best practical accessories?
I have a few questions / concerns, however. Floor mats I've had all-weather floor mats in my previous vehicles and I consider this indispensable. Are the BMW-branded mats of suitable quality or should I look elsewhere? (WeatherTec, etc.). Should I match them to the interior color or contrast them? (matter of preference I suppose but one way or the other could look out of place too) Cargo I need some cargo nets. Probably the "luggage" one and the one that stands upright in the back. Should I get a carpeted floor mat or another all-weather option? I don't haul a lot of "dirty" stuff in it, but I do from time to time. I would think the carpeted mat could be easily cleaned, and there isn't a "mismatch" when the rear seats come down for cargo. Does the grocery thing work worth a flip to hold those cheap little plastic grocery bags? CARGO COVER I know this one is touchy.. Mine did not come with one and they won't cough one up. But I have to have it, and this brings me to.. Where's the best place to get these? I know there are other places, but a little looking shows that pricing is similar and of course at the local dealer I can simply pick them up. Any advice / recommendations "get this" "don't get that" etc. would be appreciated. |

Digital weathertech floor mats are really nice. I have them in everything I own. The BMW labeled ones are made by weathertech just FYI.

I just pickup my X5 yesterday morning and I'm very happy with it. It came with the regular floor mats, but I already ordered Weather Tech floor liners for my X5 and should arrive on Wednesday (matching color).
The cargo cover will cost $100 |

I should have noted originally, but.. Yeah, it certainly LOOKED like the BMW mats and the WeatherTech's were identical. Thanks for the confirmation (appreciated).
Dealer wants FOUR HUNDRED for the *$#(@*$ cargo cover. Is there somewhere I can get it cheaper? I'm not a skinflint, but the older I get, the more unpleasant and/or stupid people I have to deal with to make money, and so all the much nmore I hate being separated from my money. |

I've got WeatherTech Digitalfit mats in mine; got them in a couple of days before I went to get the car. They are an absolute must. Remember to take out your stock mats before putting in the new ones. I also got the cargo mat, also a necessity for me.
I had the dealer install the OEM base support rails onto the roof rails; they are awesome and make the vehicle look a lot more badass. And no extra wind noise with them at all. Now I need to find a cargo organizer for small stuff and grocery bags; can't stand it when things slide around the car constantly. |

We have had the WeatherTech rear cargo floor mat, since our '01 was new: fits perfectly, has a slightly non-slide texture, and we have hauled all kinds of debris/wet stuff in rear; the lip on the mat allows for containment & easy clean up. Mat pops out and gets hosed once in awhile, too. Worth a look for those carrying stuff, and who don't need to "see" the rear carpet floor.

I got the BMW "luggage mat" and pretty much same as above... very durable, has a lip, and comes right out. The dealer made a mistake and sent me an E53 fitted one first but corrected their mistake... end result: I got the E70 one for $55.

Check out the cargo Bar, It slides into the aluminum track, you can slide it back and forth to secure cargo. It's the best acessory i have bought so far. not cheap though, $ 200.00.

I never use the cargo cover. It sits in my garage.

I don't have the aluminum track.
![]() Cargo cover is essential for me - police always say never leave valuables in your car where thieves can see them. If I cover it up.. Well, I FEEL better about it anyway. I missed it in my Lexus. Wonderful suggestions folks. Keep 'em coming! ![]() |
