2007 - 2009 4.8 Owners

08 4.8, about 52k now. No issues so far, very reliable. I think 08 is the last model year that had 12 speakers without having premium sound option. After 09 or 10, BMW starting putting in less quality sound system with less # of speakers. Head-up and adaptive drive is a must, I think. Comfort seat is great in that whenever I get in my car, the lumber support squeezes me to my setting, and it opens up when I am about to get out of the car. Tranny is smooth after the software update. I do maybe 80% highway, 20% local commute and my gas milage is about 16.5 and I take the car past 5000 rpm quite often too. Honestly, for what it is (sporty SUV), I do not know if there is anything that I do not like about this car. Although night vision via HUD option would be nice, perhaps on 12 model?

I picked up in Sept an '08 4.8 CPO with only 16K miles coming off of lease from Beverly Hills BMW. Haven't had any issues. It has everything except HUD and Active Steering. The V8 is awesome. I've only had it 3 months but love it so far. I had an '01 X5 3.0 103K miles that was totaled Labor Day weekend that was in perfect shape. You keep these cars serviced, etc and they last forever. Definitely go the CPO route.

I picked up my CPO 07' close to a month ago and I can't get enough of it. I was warned about the water in the rear lights which were replaced by the dealer. Installed my Sprint Booster V2 and I love it even more.

As ranking highest mileage E70 here (over 111,111.1 miles) I must chime in here on my experiences. Gas mileage is not a factor of features and benefits/concerns. If you plan on buying a 6K lbs. SUV (I know - SAV,) and its a V8, please be prepared to spend some money on gas.

My issues (aside from the nav-iDrive giving me some issues with brightness control,) are:

Outer window trim replaced twice due to fading
Black door molding replaced once due to fading
Front stabilizer replaced under recall.
AC compressor and fan went at 98K I think
Nav system freezes occasionally - more of an annoyance
Tranny shifting not as smooth as one would think, but can be controlled with correct accelerator placement and foot control, or manual mode
Steering wheel volume control plastic peeling (known issue)
Glovebox upper part peeling (known issue)
The biggest concern I have noticed over the 3 years, a bit noisy inside for a BMW. This is a combination of 20" wheels and tires and I think poor sound insulation from road noise. I can stand the engine, but the road/wind noise is poor - especially when on bluetooth speaker.
Rattles - hmmm, rattles galore when cold, rear hatch, even dashboard squeaks out of nowhere, plastic on seat backs, etc.

Now, most would consider my thoughts and suggest that I get another vehicle if I'm so unhappy. I'm not unhappy. I smile the most when I'm driving KYZRSOSE. The power, the sound (helped by my exhaust mod,) and the handling make this SAV the 'funnest' vehicle to drive.

2009 4.8 Sport... Transmission is adaptive to your driving, therefore I appreciate the high revs especially while in "sport" mode. I have 12K on the car with the only reported issue is the battery failing, which my local BMW dealer replaced.

2008 4.8. 60K miles since new.

quirky electronics but nothing that would queer the deal. drivetrain is solid. runs like a scalded dog. i had a guy in a sharp 135i fold on I40 this afternoon. i think i saw him shake his head in some form of disgust.
