Soft-Close Automatic Doors

Has anybody retrofit soft-close automatic doors on their E70?

I do not see this as a possibility, or not even close to being something that would be cost effective. Trying to just add heated seats, costs well over $2000, and most dealers will not even touch adding factory options, once the car has left the dealer. I just do not even think this is possible.

My 2010 750 had soft close doors, and our 2010 M6 has them. I really thought I would miss them like crazy, but I do not. Everyone slams the doors anyway, so besides from myself or my spouse, the soft close feature was kind of useless. I do miss my heated steering wheel and I know for sure I am going to miss my ventilated seats like crazy come June-Oct here in So.Cal. I'm hoping the Oyster will be somewhat cooler than my usual black leather though!!

Had the softclose doors on my M5 and didn't really find them useful. I wouldn't waste the time/effort or $$$$ on it.

What is this combox? It is on the window sticker for my 2011 35d. I have no idea what it is!

I tried it out on several models in the showroom and it struck me as a "WOW THAT'S NICE!" feature.

But you're right - if everyone slams the doors anyway, well..

It's tough getting people to get used to a BMW. I have to yell at people NOT to yank the door handle off - just pull it TWICE. I've gotten in the habit of hitting the center unlock button every time I stop the car now.

Oh, and PS.. I've heard Audi does this too (pull the door handle twice to open from the inside).. Is it a "German Thing(tm)?"

I did test drive a Q7 before test-driving the X5.. But I disliked that car so much I didn't really may it much attention. (REALLY HATED it.. I was surprised)

Porsche does the "pull the door handle" thing 2x as well...and since VW owns Porsche & Audi, I guess Porsche & Audi decided to share a quirk. VW and Mercedes does not do this. I HATE the Q7 as well. Bloated, akward, 0 driving fun and just quite ugly!

Yeah, unless a passenger or family member knows about the soft close doors, they just get slammed (and at the car wash, even at the dealership, if you valet park, etc....)

Funny, I too just immediatley unlock the door, via the dash button when I stop. This way I do not have to explain the double pull to open the door & it too keeps my door handles from being ripped away!
