BMW launches ‘Apps’ feature & ‘BMW Connected’ iPhone app

I just saw this at EXCLUSIVE: BMW launches ‘Apps’ feature & ‘BMW Connected’ iPhone app. I wonder how new the idrive needs to be to work with this app. Does anyone know?

Weasel will become famous soon enough
So with this people can get pandora radio, facebook and twitter etc. on the i-drive while driving? This is cool technology and all but may be a step in the wrong direction as far as driver distractions go. Whats worse? texting while driving or facebook on the dash!

I read on engadget that existing x5 owners are shit outta luck with this...only new builds starting in march will have this cool feature, what else is new. I just wanted the pandora interface

I guess when you pay $65k, it's too much to ask for a simple software update to be released for you.

The article lists two hardware items you will need to order with your new vehicle (after March). Doesn't sound anything like a software update.
