X5 Horror Pics

For the folks who cringe at the thought of their X5 being covered in snow, it's not the snow falling on it that's the issue, it's the gunk that builds up when you're driving! This isn't even the worst that I've seen, but it's fairly typical for the roads around here in the winter months. It's also the reason why I now avoid white cars as much as black cars, as at least the gray hides much of the nastiness once the ice melts away.

You would expect that in CO or the north east. But not in Charlotte. I had to kick gunk out from behind the front tires after driving it this morning. I don't recall having to do that since living in Ohio 30 years ago. The car I had then had already rusted its rear fenders out in < 8 years.

Growing up in NYC, I was used to seeing that. But life in So Cal has jaded me. I get angry when it rains !

I think the snow might have actually cleaned the wheels, as they're typically fairly black with the infamous BMW brake dust. These shots were taken just after pulling into the garage, and within a few minutes it was melting off into a lovely brown and black gunky mess. I haven't waxed the X5 yet, only using the "polish" option at the car wash a couple of weeks ago, but so far stuff doesn't seem to stick to it much.
