Retaining individual settings for climate control, wipers etc.

Hey guys, I've searched all over and read the manual but still struggling with this concept and was hoping all the helpful folks at this forum would help me out. My problem is this: when I first enter the car my climate control is on and running even though I turned it off before I left the car and my automatic windshield wiper is not selected even though I left it in the "ON" position when I left. Why can't the car retain the settings just how I left them last time, why does it always adjust it? Where can I change that setting?

The car is 2011 X5 SAV...

Thanks!

Clearly you haven't read the owners manual. Storing of various vehicle settings occurs in your Key fob, or, remote control (as is referenced throughout the owners manual).

Unlocking behavior page 28
Seats, mirror and steering wheel page 45
Triple turn signal page 65
Control Display Settings page 85

These are just examples. There are dozens of functions/settings that are stored in your "remote control", and dozens of references in the owners manual to this.

I suggest you read the manual, particularly the sections for the specific functions/settings you are looking for.

Like I've stated before I've read the manual and those sections in particular several times. Yes, it lists the components that should be stored in the fob but doesn't describe the behavior and what exactly happens. Can you tell me how to set my climate control so it wouldn't turn on every time I start the car? Maybe you have a better understanding of the manual than I do.

Automatic wipers are always turned off every shut down. You have to manually hit the button again when you start the vehicle back up.

As far as climate control settings, I'm pretty sure this is stored specific to the FOB in use. However, the on or off function may not be. That may also come on every time you start the vehicle. I know my 2005 X5 did. As well as my 1995 M3.

Jeremy, so you're saying that there's no way to completely disengage it so it wouldn't turn on every time I start the car? Even if I turn off the Climate memory setting?

I'm saying that's my experience. There may be a way - if you discover it, let me know. I've done a lot of research on the topic and haven't came to any good conclusion.

Like I said, both of my vehicles prior to my 07 have done it. And the 07 does it but I also leave it on when shutting the vehicle off because it's winter time here so I haven't really noticed or thought about it.

Got it! And I thought I'm not getting the German translation that my manual is written in...

Thanks!
