Mudflap owners - do they help keep the tailgate/rear window clean?

Very salty and snowy winter here. The back of my white X5 gets very dirty very quickly. Do the mudflags help reduce the splashing on the back?

Agree that they have no effect on the dirt accumulating on the back of the vehicle, but they do protect the lower aprons of the vehicle, ie on the sides right behind the wheels.

I have a white x5 too, I know exactly what you mean. Its a low pressure area behind the x5, no way around the dirt without changing the aero dynamics of the vehicle.

While I do not have to deal with snow, ice, salt or slush....My Alpine White X5 (which I love) is the HARDEST car & colour I have ever owned in terms of keeping clean.

I use a California Duster everyday, and with the flat (non-metallic) Alpine White, the dust (which looks black) just kinds of moves around, sticks and accumulates on edges and in crevices. With our 2 metallic cars, the dust just lifts off the paint immediately.

I do not understand how the Alpine White does not dust....and YES..the Rear of the car gets dirty even after a short drive. Driving the car in the rain (even light rain), the rear of the car looks like I went off roading. As blue dragon said, the rear has crazy low pressure and is very turbulent.

I LOVE the look of my Alpine White, it's my favourite colour on the E70...but if I get another X5 when the new model comes out....I think I will get Platinum Gray, Titanium Silver or I really hope Breakwater Blue Metallic is finally offered on the X5. Breakwater Blue is, IMO, THE BEST colour BMW has ever made!!

Oops, yeah Bluewater Metallic. Sorry. I have never liked a colour more than this. Only offered on the X3 and X6 Hybrid though. I think it would look awesome on the X5, especially with 214s and Sport Pkg!!

You have good taste!

I would have special ordered it for my X5 but it would be weird to have two of the same colors on the driveway.
