Phone Book/Telephone voice commands

With my 07 X3 I was able to store and dial phone numbers simply by saying to the car "store name", it would ask for the name and number and store it in the cars memory.

Then to dial one of those names I simpler said "dial name" or just name.

Supposedly I can do the same thing with the new X5. Also according to the manual this is a feature of the car.

But when I push the VC button and say "store name" or "save name", what I get back is a message regarding the CD/DVD drive (the message depends on whether or not I have a disk in the drive). Or I'll get a message about a preset button if I use "store name".

If say "read phone book" what I get back is the "redial list" from calls I've made.

The car simply won't accept either voice command.

It will however accept "dial number" or simply "number"

Also, I can get to the phone book and dial using voice commands for "my contacts" but of course that takes several voice prompts to get to the number I need.

So, I'm wondering... is this a bug in the software or does the 2010 X5 really not have this feature; which I can't believe...

Thanks again for your help...

I'm wondering the same thing for my 2011 X5? Manual says you can use the "Save Name" command but the vehicle doesn't recognize it.

On my dad's 2010 X5, the system downloads all the contacts from my mobile phone and I do not even need to manually save a voice/number into the system. For example, if I say "Dial Name" then "Home", it will dial the home number without any of the training mentioned above.

Yeah I did a little more Googling. As it turns out, that feature is not available if you have the Nav system, in which case the contacts are downloaded from your phone and read as you indicated. So you just say Dial "John Doe" and it will search for a match in your contacts. In theory, that sounds great. However, it doesn't always find the right match. I wish they would have kept the other featur allowing you to create the Voice Phone Book.
