tighten gas cap
Also I have a check engine light just today for the 1st time in 3 years... was just in for maintenance last month at the same time. Check control messages show nothing - only the engine icon is lit. I gotta wait 6 days for the appt. Shall I go in as an "emergency" for such issues?

Generally speaking, if the engine icon is not flashing, it is not an "emergency" situation. That said, I myself would get the codes read before driving it a lot. Many auto parts places, such as AutoZone, will read the codes for free.
If you do this, be sure to write down the exact codes, not just a verbal explanation. If you post the codes here, there are several people who might be able to throw some light on the situation, depending upon the codes. That said, there are good odds that you have a emissions system leak, due to something they did during the repair, such as not connecting a vapor control hose tightly. The vehicle periodically applies a vacuum to the fuel tank/vapor control system, and if it does not hold a vacuum long enough, reports an error. Often it first reports a loose fuel cap warning, assuming that is the likely cause of the leak, and if it repeatedly fails the test, then throws a code for a "general vapor control system leak." |

Yes, a bit to the left with a pull-off cover if I remember correctly.
