I think it's always best to have warranty esp. on a BMW. I wouldn't pay for the extra free maintenance for ~2k cause I think indy BMW mechanics are cheaper and sometimes better.

how has the history of fixes been for you so far? I don't drive all that much and the amount for 2 extra years seems like it's not worth it but on the other hand, I've had it in for various issues that I certainly wouldn't want to be paying for each of them. I bring it in for maintenance once a year and along with it there's at least 2-3 other fixes I need to have made. Question then becomes, what is not actually covered...

For everything they've fixed so far, there's an additional 3 year warranty on it, so I was told. So that leaves new stuff to break without coverage...

OP-

TOO LATE. You need to buy the BMW extended warranty by 45k miles OR 45 months.

(this applies to the Gold or Platinum plans...there is a 'basic powertrain' plan, but it covers little and IMO the things it covers are NOT the things that are likely.)

Please do yourself a BIG favor and start looking for a good BMW independent. There must be a few great choices in NJ. You should start with them doing your maintenance, so that you get to know them, so that if you have an 'issue' you aren't going in cold.

The maintenance plan is a scam. It only makes 'sense' if you use a BMW dealer for maintenance and pay their stupid and artificially inflated numbers. Almost any indy will be cheaper.

Question: Has the dealer done ALL the maintenance on you car that was due by 50k/4 years (not sure which limit you are at)??? Including those services that are NOT ON THE CAR'S CBS and WHICH DEALERS OFTEN 'FORGET'??? Like brake flushes and coolant service? Get it done if it is due to you.

Many threads on the maintenance plan.

Interesting. BMWs standard invoice includes a statement of their warranty, which is 2 years on parts and labor. Frankly I am not sure if that applies to parts done under OE warranty or not.

Although on my E39, they replaced the NAV computer under warranty. Then it failed 18months later (one year out of warranty) and they replaced it... and then failed AGAIN (!!) and got it replaced. But I was friends with the SA, and was not sure if this was SOP.
