iPhone Questions

I will likely get the Verizon iPhone. I have the 6FL (but not the smart phone integration) and use an Ipod in the car with the Y cable along with my current phone thru Bluetooth.

Will the iPhone work the same? Music & charging thru the cable and phone thru bluetooth? Do I need the smart phone integration? Can it be added by the dealer? What does it add if I don't need it for basic functionality.

Or I may still use the iPod for music and keep the iPhone in my pocket for the phone.

I'm sure if I had the time I could search for the answers but I thought I'd ask first....

TIA...

You can use the phone for everything , or use your IPod for music, and leave your phone out for calls only. It's your choice. Both will hook up through the Y cable that plugs inside the armrest. Both will also charge when plugged in. Sometimes I use my IPhone for everything, and other times I use the phone. It's your choice. Hope that helps.

I am getting my X5 premium in the next 2 to 3 weeks. I have ordered the tech package with it. Are you able to stream Pandora or TuneIn radio and control it from the Nav screen/iDrive? I know I can simply use the aux feature, but I can't control it from idrive then.

Neither tune in or pandora are supported in the initial release.

In order to use web radio you have to use BMWs connected drive app. Although it's similar to tune in, it's missing many popular stations including all the BBC ones.

..or do what I've been doing since my E92. Run an aux cable to your armrest and listen that way.

Will they be able to retrofit recent builds with this option? Again I am getting a build from this month and am expecting delivery in 2 weeks.

Internet radio on iphone thru idrive

Just took delivery of a 2011 X535d.....and YES you can listen to your Internet radio/Pandora/etc etc thru your idrive/stereo. It will pick up your device as a bluetooth/wireless device. tune into your station and when you 'play' it on your iphone, it 'plays' thru the speakers of your X5..its awesome! No wires, no aux, nothing! We listened to Dallas stations all the way from South Carolina home!

and FYI--no 'Y" cable with new Oct '10 on builds..it just uses iphone supplied USB cable to connect a iphone or ipod...transfers sound and album art!
