in the uk, staggered 335s are the norm, never heard of anyone with 335s not staggered.

It also looks like the wheels that the x5 shares with the x6 (ie. 212's) are square on the x5's, but staggered on the x6's. It seems like all x6's use staggered set-ups.

anyone got rid of the staggered set up and put 255s all round on the 19 inch 9" and 10" width wheels?, interested as have spare set and would like to do this in the winter.

That tire is 29.1" in diameter. Same as a 285/45-19 in a pirelli Scorp.

Hmm, tried to look (without removing the wheel from the car ofcourse) and couldn't find anything, unless I have to remove the wheel altogether and see the darkest corner lol.

But you are right, 19" OE has 255/50/19 tire. This is what I have have on all 4 tires.

So to conclude this thread, basically we can go to 285/45/19 max if we have 19" OE rims?

well, if it was me, I'd pop the wheel off and take the 5 minutes.

A 285 is 30mm wider...so 15mm or 1/2" on the inside and outside. Visually, when you look at the tire and turn it lock to lock, is there room for the extra 1/2"?

Here is a trick question, compared to the 255/50, will the 285/45 have a shorter sidewall height, same or more?

I've also found that upsized tires (and the right alignment) will increase treadwear life.

The 285/45x19 will have the same overall diameter as the 255/50x19 though thats just a theoreticall view as manufactures tyres vary slightly from their stated sizes.
if the front can stand a 275/40x20 and rear 315/35x20 then its likely the 285/45 will be fine at the rear and mostly likely ok at the front as long as the wheel offset is ok. (all just my opinion of course but try the website to see where the gaps go with the different sizes etc.

I don't have enough equipment to actually remove the wheel off the vehicle, so I will have to find the jack and other related accessories to try that.

Thanks Macca916, that is one useful website. Tho a couple of things I did not understand in it, but it looks like 255 is same as 285.

I can do 255/50/19 in the front and 285/45/19 in the rear, maybe? ard?

The sidewall is actually a percentage of the tire cross section.

The first is 255 x 50% or 127.5mm

Compared to 285 x 45% or 128.25mm

So they are the SAME sidewall height! The 285 gives you 30mm more tread on the road. It will not change speedo, etc... should give basically the same ride too. If it fits the rim and in the body, this is one of those upsizes that makes sense to me. But everyone needs to check it out for themselves

Hence my trick question. Same overall size, same rim same sidewall....

Go with the same size on all 4, better performance with a heavy engine up front.
