UNBELEIVABLY BAD DEALER EXPERIENCE

I had a scheduled 2 hour appointment today to pick up my 35d. I was looking forward to it all weekend.

I get there, the CA shows me the truck- IT LOOKS GREAT. We go back to his desk to do the paperwork, etc. He confirms for me the last lease numbers that we negotiated (and were in writing) and I said 'That is correct'. He continues typing and then walks away and says 'There is a problem - I need to go work it out'. I have him paged 50 minutes later and he comes back with the 'Used Car Sales' manager (not sure why!!) and they tell me that there was an error with the money factor and the payment would be $80 per month higher. THey said they'd discount the car an additional $500 but that the payment would still be higher.

I said no. They said sorry. I asked for a ride home, they obliged.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?????????

Interesting tidbit: for the last 2 weeks all the CA has been saying to me is how hard it is for anyone to get an X5 these days, all the allotments are gone, they are losing sales, no diesels left, etc.....I guess they wanted to get more $$ from someone else!

I have owned or leased 2- 3 series, 1- 5 Series and 1- X3. I CANNOT believe that a BMW dealer would do this to me!! I guess I am way too naive.

I am now working on my letter to BMW.

My dealer added 400 dollars to my FINAL agreed price and started saying the same BS - diesels are hard to get etc. He was actually asking 1000 over but we settled for 400 after bickering and haggling.

I love my X5 but the dealer ruined the experience. When I cancelled the tire/wheel warranty - they refunded all the money but kept the Tax on it and haven't returned my call after leaving 6 voice messages. After selling a 55K car, why would someone cheap out on 120 dollars tax.

Sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience looking for my 08 X5.

I began my search at the local CPO BMW showroom. I saw a 4.8 they had and liked it, but it didn't have too many options. They said that's all they had. I later went home and checked on the website and there was a 08 X5 with 20k miles! I called the salesrep again and he said he wouldnt have it until monday and to come then. I did and I saw it parked very closely between two other cars. We went for a test drive and it drove great. We got back and I was looking around and saw humongous scratch marks on both sides. The carfax was clean and now the sales rep said, I already told you about this..

I told him no, you are lying, we just found the car online, how would you have been able to tell me?

Anyways, I ended up finding a private showroom (featuring lambos, ferraris, and corvettes!) and they had the X5 with EVERY single option loaded for a great price. The experience was great as well, they let me test drive the car alone; I've never had that experience in NJ before!

So typical...my stealer tried puling something like that on me and I laughed and headed for the exit with my free haagan-dazs ice cream bar in hand from the showroom They called me back an hour later and made it happen.

Your letter is a waste of electrons.

First, tell them you want to meet with the GM of the dealership (NOT SALES) tomorrow, prior to making a final decision on the car. DO NOT LET THEM SELL IT.

Second, do you have ALL the numbers for the lease? Post them. Lets see if it really is a mistake.

Third, print out this thread and the other thread. Hand it to the GM, along with your analysis of the lease terms showing it is a blatant money squeeze.... ask if he wants this hassle on his hands.

FInally, sorry to hear.

If you are going through all this write up to warn us of your dealer experience, why not post the dealer name? Dealerships need to know that when they screw one person over, everyone else knows too.

I would ask for 80 off now, play their own game. Say so and so dealer is giving that same car for 80 less and you were kinda happy they let you go that day.

Yes! I'd like to hear them say how unfair that would be for you to demand that of them. "Gee, exactly like you did to me?"
