I believe it provides an actual ashtray instead and the "lighter" for the power outlet. Beware, BMW will report this to your insurance so your premiums may go up due to being a "smoker"

+1. Frankly, not sure why BMW still does this for the X5. They ditched it in the 1er and 3er already.

I changed my CPO smokers package out. The one thing I do miss is slot that is cut out to allow the light to come through. I guess you can mod the smoker's tray and remove the cig holder and line the inside?

bought mne used that came with this package not that it had been used. Has front lighter and ashtray as well as ash trays in both rear doors that are great for storing small trinkets.

I don't smoke, but have ran across a couple used X5 that had this option.
