Need help considering a 08 4.8 X5 CPO

Hey everyone, new to the forum but I have been lurking for awhile. I am in search of a 08 4.8 and came across one. The dealer sent me the service record and I'm not sure if I should be concerned. I would appreciate any help you guys and gals can give me. Here it is:

Is there anything I should be really worried about? Something that may have reoccurring problems?

I'd really appreciate anyone's input, thanks!

I smell a buyback/lemon.

I'd want to speak to the prior owner... that car has had A LOT of issues and time in the shop, and some of it may have been significant. You have no idea what the actual complaint were, those are only what the dealer confirmed and logged onto their system.

One of those numbers is the dealer code- I think it is the first 5 digit number. The car was at dealer 22007 for most of the visits, once elsewhere, then wholesaled and a maintenance visit at the last number.

Find out were they were, post the vin and those locations- see if anyone knows the car.

I would pass. When I selected my CPO I was very specific on what I could accept and the only issue my car had was a headlight failure. Seeing I-Drive issues would make me run the other way

I said "smell"... This list would cause me to be very careful, but the jury is still out. Could have simply been a lease that got turned in. (I'd never buy a lease, BTW.) What does carfax say about ownership?

It had transmission shifing issues, nav/idrive issues and sunroof issues. That is like every '07/08 known issue list' item, I think.

I may have had the headers wrong..some of the old ones I have are formatted differently.

.Anyway, I tried to see if I had the BMW dealer codes somewhere but I do not.

Good luck in your research.

Carfax says 1 owner personal lease. What is your opinion on a lease return, why would you not consider it? Nothing significant on the carfax. I'm going to be really patient on this search. Thanks again!

If it was lemoned I would expect that it was turned back in prior to the end of lease. It went out from one dealer (04942), got serviced for three years by another dealer (with one exception) and was then worked on by the original dealer at three years plus a day, getting a brake job under the maintenance plan. Sounds very much like it was simply turned back in to the original dealer.

A bunch of small issues, many of them electrical, but more than should occur with a new vehicle. Then a broken sunroof cassette. All very typical for the E70 in my opinion. I wouldn't worry about anything on here, primarly because there weren't repeat failures and the problems weren't major.

CPO is a good idea, but understand that it is not a guarantee of certified quality, but rather a warranty. It is also not as comprehensive as the original full vehicle warranty, but it is better than nothing.

A lease is a rental.

You do NOT want to buy a car that ard has rented.

(Lessees are simply using -maybe abusing- a car for 3 years, then turn it in and move on... no way to know what kind of care was taken, other than the very minimal BMW specified.)

That is why I would never buy a lease.

Good analysis.

I will again point out that the actual work order- with the customers stated concern- would tell a much better story than this line item reduction.

And of course I agree on the CPO- good for a warranty, but a buyer should do an independent PPI at his own mechanic. PRIOR to purchase. (Thats redundant I know, but can I tell you I've seen people post "I just bought a car and had a PPI and there were all kinds of issues...")
