Awesome iDrive Screen Coating

Hey everyone, this site is really cool first off and thank you for all the info I have already aquired!

I just got a 2007 X5 4.8i and after "de-dealering" it i have found that the iDrive screen anti glare coating is fading/gone toward the bottom of the screen. I attempted to clean the spot thinking it was some of the armorall type crap dealers use before I knew what it was and have now successfully extended the non coated area . By the way, word to the wise, do not use invisible glass on your iDrive screen.....and you probably should already know not to do this as I thought before I tried it, but the stupid voice in my head won out.

Anyways, I did some research and have found this is not really uncommon. I have a CPO warranty and wondering if one could achieve any love from that (doubt it)?

The other thought is to do the buffing out of the coating as some have mentioned in this forum but then I would have a glare whenever the sunroof cover is not closed (imagine that, glare on the screen after removing the anti-glare coating, weird). The only thing I have not really seen good detail on is if there is a known antiglare or clear sheild aftermarket material I could use to replace the antiglare coat.

I searched around the interwebs on this one alot too and did not really see a full solution. I also tried to look for a replacement LCD screen and those results came back with eBay dealers and imports from China and both of those made me throw up in my mouth a little thinking of how "if-iee" those solutions may be.

So this is my first post, its alot to ask too so if you are angry with me expecting so much so soon lets talk it out, otherwise we cant really create a good family environment here right?

Seriously, you all have given me alot of fantastic data already and I thank you.

Look forward to hanging out here.

I wonder how a power support anti-glare film would work on an iDrive screen. I had it on my iPhone 3G and now on my iPhone4 and on both of our iPads. I think that its extra great on those.

You could get an iPad one and cut it to fit the iDrive screen and see if it works. If it doesn't, just take it off. Only $30 from the manufacturer; couldn't hurt to try. Unfortunately they're out of stock though:
