Yay, more coolant system issues

Driving to a meeting this morning, and dash lights up with engine running too hot error, maxes out speed at 40, and then 20 seconds later, throws up an Engine Overheated message and throttles down the engine. Luckily, it was enough time to get off the highway since I was right by an exit.

Sitting at the dealer, and my SA says that he thinks it's the water pump.

Let's see what happens.

p.s. Just as a reminder, had my radiator crack about a year ago, thus the title

It's the water pump. Sad that he just knows these things because of how often they break. Being replaced now.

Has anyone ever had a dealership replace a defective part with a refurb'd part before?

Wonder if they give the option when you're paying for it. It's was CPO eligible

if there is a remanned and new, they will let you pay for either.

IMO a remanned is perfectly fine- they have all the newest improvements and are typically 'high failure rate' parts: alternators, tranny, maybe AC compressor. The housing/casing is reused, but all other parts are new. But admittedly it is hard to know for sure

Probably around there. Part is $450 plus 4 hours of labor. Screws and coolant probably another $50. Work order shows $145 / hr.

So you 4.8, 35i and 3.0 owners have to deal with this. 35D has a mechanical pump. We do however have to deal with SCR catalyst issues and with the horse pee in the tank.
