Towing with surge brakes - anyone tow a boat?

Towing with surge brakes - anyone tow a boat?

So I picked up a new boat, its approximately 4400 lbs and the trailer is about 1500 lbs. The trailer is a tandem wheel setup but it only comes with surge brakes. Am I being paranoid about towing that much weight with only surge brakes, or should I convert to electric?

With electric, I have to remember to disconnect the trailer harness before dunking it, and I'm worried about corrosion of the parts.

Anyone tow a big boat? What are you experiences?
