2012 bmw x5 35d steering recall.
Affecting xDrive35d models built between March 21 and May 19, 2011, the recall covers a faulty component from a supplier that could cause the belt tensioner to develop cracks, eventually failing. If that happens, power steering assistance would be lost, potentially causing a crash. BMW has a fixed component ready for replacement, however, and the recall/repair process will begin this month. Owners of affected vehicles can bring their SUVs in for a fix at BMW dealers free of charge. If you own one a 2012 X5 xDrive35d, you can contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (reference recall campaign number 11V332000) or BWM customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or via email at [email protected]. 2012 BMW X5 Diesel Recalled For Possible Steering Failure |

No one owns a 2012 X5d. The 2012 X5d is not out, yet. They will not be built until September 2011. This sounds a bit suspicious! Does anyone have legitimate info on this matter?

Interesting you bring this up. I just picked up my X5 today and the tech that was prepping the car stated that I lucked out that there is a whole swath of cars that aren't being released due to some "issue". He wouldn't tell me what the issue was but said my car was six days out of the build date range requiring them to hold the car. I am sure we'll hear more soon...

I suspect the recall is correct, but the model year is not.

Please, "steering to fail"?? Are people idiots?
You loose power steering pressure, and it is just like non-power steering. At high speed, this is not much of an issue...at low speeds it becomes and issue, but you are also almost stopped. |

Spoke to my SA yesterday. He confirmed the report and called the people who wrote the bulletin idiots for claiming they were 2012 vehicles since obviously the Diesel 2012 models don't come out until October. Luckily our truck is not effected. He said the recall wasn't that big of deal in terms of it causing an accident, it will just get very stiff. But if I knew anyone with this production to recommend them getting it done sooner rather than later when the problem has already happened.
