USA X5 importing into CANADA - DRL kit

I've just purchased my second X5, upgrading the 2002 for a 2008 4.8i

I need the vehicle to have Daylight Running Lights for Canada as its the law, does anyone have instructions on how to set this up or is there a kit I need to purchase to have them on permanently?

Really appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks
Rory

If there is any warranty on it that you want to retain in Canada, then BMW Canada will need to reprogram the car and they will insist on the changing the instrument cluster.

Thanks for your response. No there is no warranty.
I have also heard and read that BMW Canada are ripping people off with changing the instrument cluster when its fine as its has both Km's and Miles. A lot of people are outraged at their bad business practice, they want to sting people who don't purchase in Canada and they make it as hard as they can

Dealer coding required for the daytime running lights.

One poster mentioned that his dealer required that the cluster be changed because while you can program DRL on or off, the Canadian cluster won't let you switch off the DRL and BMW sees this as a liability issue.

Not sure if that is right or not, but I see no reason to believe that BMW is just selling clusters to rip off purchasers of US vehicles. It doesn't make sense.

I had no issues with BMW Canada honouring my warranty and I did not change the cluster. I've had peeling trim replaced, as well as a burnt out bulb.

I drive quite often in the US, and I refuse to swap out a dual marked clusterfor one with no imperial units.

For the DRL, any indy shop will be able to program them permanently on for you.

The E70 should have a programable DRL feature. It's located under "settings" and allows you to turn on the HALO DRL's

Thats exactly the reason, to discourage Canadian buyers from shopping in the US. Considering that you can save over 10k by purchasing a US vehicle, they aren't going to make it easy.

Canadian law is that you can not have the ability to turn DRL off - hence the need to reprogram the idrive settings to make it a non-selectable feature.

If you have the daylight running lights set to on in the I-Drive settings all of the time how would you get caught?

Chuck
