help! remote smart key was stolen
One of my remote key (No comfort access feature) was stolen and my driver license. They know where I live and where the car is parked. Does anyone know if dealer is the only place to order remote key? I heard they are very expensive like $300 a piece. Any where else i can get for cheaper price? And my other concern is that the thief have my key so he can drive my car away, is it possible I can reprogramming the other key and the X5 by myself so the key he stole from me cannot be used anymore? Thanks in advance |

Your'e out of luck, you need to go to the dealer and pony up!
I'm sure the dealer can recode the car so the lost key doesn't work. I'm not sure what they do with the physical key part that can unlock the car doors. Anyway, youre not the first to lose keys so I'm sure they know what to do. |

We ran into the same situation like yours about 18 months ago, where my wife's purse was stolen with her cc, dl, a few bills, an ES350 key, and home keys. I took her car to the dealer to reprogram and order a replacement key for around $325.00. It is very damn pricey!!!
Since that scum bag stole her purse with her driver license, which contained our home address. We also decided to replace all the door locks at home just in case and to be safe than be sorry. Quote:

I will confirm that we can indeed turn off the old key so it won't start the vehicle and won't work keyless entry, but the slide out metal key would still be able to open the door allowing them to rummage through it for stuff to steal, and give them a chance to fuck up your interior. It would be an expensive option to re-key the whole vehicle.

Thanks for all the great tips.
I did replace all the doors lock at home . I am going to call Auto insurance to find out if it is covered for this case. Do they charge for reprogramming the new smart key or just the smart key itself? Especially, I need them to disable the smart key that it was stolen.

I found one from ebay with the same FCCID. Would that work? Does anyone know will dealer program it if I buy it from ebay?

I would NOT get the eBay one, too many people get them just to realize not even the dealer can program in the rolling codes for their EWS system. Just buy the new key from the dealer, and getting it working will be on the same diagnostic charge of turning off the stolen one. Just bring all current keys with you so they can determine the number of the stolen one.
