Illuminating rings around lights

2008 X5 3.0si

Does anyone know what are the illuminating rings around headlight and DRL in the headlight console. I tried searching but could not find what these are called?

Are these rings just reflectors OR separate lights?

Recently my passenger side DRL lamp went out. At the same time I noticed that both the rings around the lights are not illuminating.

Is it just a coincidence that all three went out at the same time or are they connected in any way?

I found the replacement lamp for DRL but where do I get those rings and how do I replace them?

I have heard that name. But don't know what those are.

are they reflector built into the casing?
OR built-in LED lights
OR replaceable LED lights

They are essentially like a fiber optic (much thicker), glass rings with a standard halogen bulb (for 2008s, 2011s have LEDs). The bulb is located in the inner of the two projectors and drives both the rings. The interesting bit of engineering is that even though the bulb is forward facing the internal reflectors channel the light only through the rings. You can easily get inexpensive replacement bulbs for the same, I believe they are H8s (off the top of my head).
