Range on Garage Door Opener SUCKS!

Is anyone else have issues with the poor range on the garage door opener buttons mounted in the rear view mirror? If I'm not within about 15 feet of the garage door, it doesn't open the door. What a PITA.

On my universal ones that mount up in the ceiling console (E39, E46), there was a DIY workaround where I opened it up and wrapped aluminum foil attached to the internal antenae that did extend the range. I think getting into the rear view mirror might be a riskier proposition.

Any ideas or options?

Completely agree - this was a problem with my 530i, and there's been no improvement on the 2011 X5. Just plain sucks, I have to be within about 20 feet.

It may be your garage door opener. My opener works about 300 yards or so from our house. My antenna on my opener is about 3 feet long so that may help

Mine is fine also. Hits from at least 300 feet away.

What kind of opener do you guys have?

I'm using a Craftsman w/rotating codes in a residential neighborhood - our Acura could hit it 100 feet away, the BMWs normally have to be in the driveway.

Not apples to...the homelink on our '01 works from 100+ ft away, here at our Mtn
Joint, and at our FL shack. They must have dumbed them down.

Mine works from about 50ft at a 90 degree angle. I hit the opener as I'm passing the house and do a 180 to get into the driveway. The door is opening. I've never tested the full range but the ones on the mirrors seem about the same as the older roof mounted.

Do you have to face the garage door? mine is maybe 40ft, not more than that. It should be more, mu reg clicker has a distance of at least 200ft.

Mine is weird as well. I can be right in front of the garage door, and it won't open it. Yet there is a certain spot that I found about 100ft up the street that it opens it every time.....Strange. The homelink on our Sienna is the same way.
