I would suggest paying the 1400 for a winter set. You will save the OEM tires for lease turn in which I would assume on a 12k lease you will need new tires. I know my X was at 4/32's and needed to be replaced. If you get the winter, you will not have to purchase new rubber at lease turnin and you should be able to sell your winter setup for about $700 because winters are 400+ treadware so they wear very little.

There is also a better chance of not messing up a rim in the winter which would have to be replaced at turn in if the they are damaged.

Not to mention you will get the added benefit of having a snow tire performance in the winter.

MRV99 I like your logic. I hadn't thought about the potential of avoiding a tire charge at turn in. How many miles did you have when you turned it in? What tires were they? The duellers don't start out with very deep tread in the first place...
