It needs to be coded, as the vehicle odometer mileage is stored in various places including the instrument cluster. If there is a discrepancy in the stored values, the odometer tamper warning will show up. Because you are putting in a different instrument cluster, the mileage will be different between that and the values stored in the DME.

I tried a used cluster yesterday and connected it, but nothing showed up. I guess that's due to the required coding. Maybe i will just switch out the dials and keep my old cluster...

I was always under the impression that the cluster merely displays data that it gets send through the Ecu. Therefore, everything should be stored in the Ecu and then just send to the cluster for displaying.

To code the cluster, can i just use the regular D-Can cable or is a GT1 required?
