Can't drive my 2008 4.8i smoothly

I find my 4.8i (2008) very difficult to drive smoothly. There are two problems:

1) However smoothly I press the gas pedal the car lurches forward unevenly. The only take-off that is reasonably smooth is if I floor the gas pedal which is fun but inappropriate most of the time.

2) When slowing to a halt using the brakes, the car slows down smoothly until it is almost stationary then there is a significant lurch as something in the transmission engages or disengages. It's as if there is a really heavy weight somewhere in the car that is moving forward and hits a bulkward or something.

I'd like to know whether these are normal for this model and whether anything can be done to eliminate these problems.

Apologies to the forum - I have now seen the many discussions on this topic, which answer the questions I have posted about smooth driving. The only thing I would still like to know is what is the most recent (and best?) software version for the transmission on this model and how can I determine whether I have it or not?

the lurching issue was somewhat fixed a while back, so if you still experience it, it was probably never addressed - just tell the dealer about it. The update should update everything else too, so why not just go.

Just dropped off my 07 4.8i for a new tranny.

I went about having a tech demo with me for the issue, we did the full reprogram and no dice. BMW corp IDd it as a fluid tank issue in the tranny and it was replaced.

If your car shifts hard and jumps when braking to a smooth stop when cold and somewhat does not present the issue when warm then you may have this issue. Anyone who wants more info please let me know, thanks!

Took mine in this week for that same issue. Seems to be fixed. Prior to the fix I would put it in Sport and it seemed to help for whatever reasons.
Good Luck!

its impossible to drive this SUV as smoothly as a other cars it seems. i dont know about the new transmission (7 gear) but the old one is jerky.

the brakes have a tough time stopping without jerky rocking the car back and forth either.

but i still love the damn thing.
