panoramic roof vent

I have had a 2006 e53 with panoramic roof. In that car when its cool out i can push up on the control button and it will tilt the roof up and split the cover to reveal the mesh.

I just recently traded for a 2007 e70 because of the third row. I also have the panoramic roof in the e70. but I noticed today when I went to vent the roof the cover did not split to reveal a mesh section.

Is this normal? it still moves the cover back slightly and the glass roof still tilts up. did they do away with this cover split on the newer model? do i have a faulty roof? I've tried googling and searching this and other BMW forums with no luck. I've also tried to reset the roof by holding the button for about a minute and it went through the full operation of the roof. still doesn't work.

Thanks in advance for anyone's input on this matter.

I remember that on my 2004 and 2005. My 2007 doesn't seem to have it either

This is the new way on the e70 I'm afraid. IMO e53 tilt mode with blind opening in middle was much nicer. Ah well progress....

They redesigned the moonroof back around 2006-2007 for all the BMWs and the newer ones don't have it. The mesh partition is a lovely feature on my 2004 X3.

the mesh and its bracket that rises and retracts have been a source of problems about 3 times for me now... rather have it move as infrequent as possible.
