The other alt is non-RFTs. I realize the paranoia level and hand wringing goes up exponentially with non-RFTs, but really:
-when was the last time you, or your wife had a flat, on the road, as opposed to finding it losing air in the driveway?
-A RFT will get you/spouse a few dozen miles down the road; the odds of finding that 20" RFT tire replacement, that day,are slim to none, and Slim is on the bus.
-Not same car, but I've driven my Vette with non-RFTs for 3 years, including a 13,000 mile RoadTrip this summer, without giving it much thought.
-We do at least 2 trips from NC to NJ per year, and an annual 800 mile drive, each way, from NC to our FL joint. None of the cars I take on any of those trips has RFTs.

Not trying to sell you non-RFTs, but the surrounding hysteria, (not aimed at you), regarding trying/going to non-RFTs, is remarkable, and way overblown, imo. RFTs are here to stay, but still being able to opt out, or replace worn RFTs with non-RFTs, is another avenue, imo.

As for tires in gen: I find those larger sizes to become 'noisy' after some time and miles, regardless of car brand, tire brand, etc., but that's just my 'ears'.
GL, mD

I had the exact problem with road noise with Continental that came with my X5. Got rid of them at about 40k kilometers and switch to Michelin Lattitued and now its almost 92k kilometers its still very quiet.
