X5 in a list with some very elite company
The e70 found itself in the same list with the Presidential State Car, The Conquest Knight XV, 1954-55 Mercedes-Benz W196, Volkswagen Race Touareg 3, Rolls-Royce Phantom Bespoke.
I love the x5, but it and the F450 do not belong in that class of vehicles. Even after years of ownership of the X5, I learned a lot from this article. 7 Expensive Cars Worth the Price - TheStreet For example: "It's that third row of rear seating and engines ... that keep the X5's prep-school parents happy." The writer must be 5'3".

It's funny when you read articles like this and then try and do a BMW dealer trade ... Suddenly the x5 diesel is a vehicle no one wants or has poor trade in value.

Only one on that list that I could ever see myself purchasing is the F450, but unless there was an Airstream to tow I wouldn't need the capacity of the F450.
The final car on the list is the Mercedes W196 streamliner, coincidentally also my avatar (being driven by Stirling Moss at Goodwood)

Ironic thing is, it's completely the opposite in Europe. Here, used petrol X5s are cheap as chips. A three year old diesel X5 will cost more than a three year old petrol X5 despite the latter having a significantly higher original cost. The same goes for X3s - A 2.0d X3 of a similar age would have been worth about 50% more than the 3.0i X3 we had.

That article is great. I too have some concerns that the F450 and X5 are grouped with the other.
It is actually funny about the resale value. I got a better deal buying one brand new than I would have buying a used 35d in the states. I think the diesel is FINALLY catching some steam here. |
