Lemon: Should I post a detailed history? Vote.
Dealer will be sending this to auction.... Should I post the VIN and the work history? Some future buyer might google the VIN and it'd be nice to know this... I can pdf the [redacted] work records and just let it sit so a future buyer might find it. BMW will take a huge hit at auction... but my real concern is a retail buyer. Vote. Comment. A |

Car is really pretty good and we really like it. No squeaks or rattles, drives fantastic.
We're buying the same car, but with a spare- same color. packages, etc, (With the new configurations, we have to take comfort access and roof racks) Diesel, Sport, Cold, AD, Comfort Seats, Sound, Premium, spare... The singular fact that made the decision is that given the circumstances, it will allow me to upgrade for $2500 and get a two year newer car, with 33k less miles... simple as that. Heck, this one needs new tires so I'll just get a new car instead ![]() Car was out of service for 70 days, but most of that was 35 days at the dealer when PUMA just kind of gave up. dealer was fantastic, but the buyback folks sluggish. The indepenent company that is doing the transaction are absolute slimy morons. I don't see a personal downside to posting, but figured if there was someone would comment. |

the cause / causes of the 70 days of driving hiatus?
i relish the three and four days with the dealer's loaner myself. took a 335i for an extended weekend a while back. it will pass a semi as if the semi were standing still at 7 in the morning. styro coffe cup in one hand, the lives of my passengers in the other.......... we ended up DNF-ing late that weekend. the 335i however was fantastic. and there was the two days i got to tool about town in a 335D. talk about some serious torque. holy schnitt skids Batman, 60 to 80 passing was stupendous if not exhilirating..... |

The odds are pretty slim that a new buyer would google the VIN...... Yet I do think for the small number of X5 enthusiasts on this board, it would be a benefit to understand the details of your mechanical issues, the failed repair attempts, and your path to resolution......just don't violate any terms of your agreement.....

Are they asking you to sign some kind of confidentiality agreement that you will not reveal that the car is lemoned? If so, I would question the ethics of that - under consumer law thay can't make you stay quiet about it; your rights are your rights.
If they are not making you keep quiet, then by all means make a factual post to say "I owned this car, VIN No...., the dealer has taken it back as it had these defects which they could not resolve to my satisfaction". You are doing nothing wrong in stating facts. |

agree with mobilejo...
Look into the legal paper's small print whether or not you are allowed to do public disclosure as result of the settlement/deal with BMW... If there are no restrictions, post the facts, not emotions!

Or if you are required to be confidential, you could 'accidentally' leave a copy of the service history in an inconspicuous location in the vehicle for the next owner to find. Under trunk floor comes to mind or under the drivers seat. Glove box would be too obvious. |
