Still Working on Rear Fogs...
I have the needed switch installed, and have been looking at the FRM module for the needed coding. There is a bunch of stuff about the Brake Force, and the NSL (rear fogs) and Ive tweaked most of them without any luck as of today. Can someone from Europe or Canada, with working Rear Fogs send me a copy of the FRM module contents? UPDATE: NO CODING NEEDED! Here is a DIY... Thanks, John

^^ Don't have working rear fogs in Canada. Can you send me a list of the FRM values that you have modified? I think that youw ould have to disable the brake force stuff, because currently we use those for brake force instead of fogs

Maybe that has something to do with it, although I'm not sure. Similar to the E90, the brake lights are slightly different depending on the region: For the rest of the world, there is a single brake light, then the "bi-level" lights under hard braking. The "Bi-level" acts as the standard braking for North American models, and the rear foglights work under hard braking.

^^ Exactly. It would be great if someone from Europe could send us a trace file

Lots of unknowns...
Thanks for the posts guys...
I have the vehicle schematics and have verifided that all of the wiring is in place, but there are a number of entries in the FRM module that are related to the rear fogs (NSL) and also the Brake force (BREMSL) function. As you can see in this NCS Dummy file (I have noted defaults and changes that I have made) there are several options, and it gets pretty complex trying to figure out what is related. I suspect there may be a missing line to enable the fog function, so it would be good to see a file from someone who has this function working. Thanks again, John

This is slightly off-topic, but I guess somewhat relevant. It's the wiring diagram.
WDS BMW Wiring Diagram System - X5 E70 The sad thing is: the more I know about these cars, the more disillusioned at how many differences there are between the US and rest of the world versions. There's a number of differences in the cornering lights, for example. And in the rest of the world, one can order the Active Seat (massage) for both driver and passenger. In the US/Canada due to the passenger occupancy sensor, this is not possible for the passenger. Grrr! |

E70 Rear Fogs WORK!
Finally got my rear fogs working last night... And FYI, there is NO coding needed.
On my 2008 4.8i, there was no wire installed from the connector (Pin 9) on the back of the light switch to the connector (pin 14) on the left side of Floor Well module behind the hood acess handle. It shows the wire on all of the wiring diagrams that I have seen, but it was not there. Buy the correct switch, install the wire, and you too will have Rear Fogs on your E70. Took me about 45 minutes to figure out what to do and to get it done. I bought my switch here, be sure to order the correct one, for your vehicle options: EuroActive.com - Buy Genuine BMW & Land Rover Parts and Accessories Online Enjoy, 95wildtt
