I've paired the Droid X then had to return it because of 3G coverage issues. Reverted back to my ancient Verizon XV6800 / HTC Titan which is a WinMo6 phone. At least no req'd data plan on the smartphone. Still pairs fine.

rh, what was the problems you were facing with Droid X?
Looks like you are close to me here in LI, I am seriously considering Verizon, whether iPhone or Android, it will most likely be Verizon. And now that it is 4G, it should be fine.

Nobody mentioned if they do any more than just call via iDrive or listen to music.. Especially the iPhone crowd. Does anyone utilize BMW Apps? I am really interested in that functionality, but since iPhone is 3G that is a huge drawback because BMW Apps rely on internet.

Do any of you manage to browse music that's on your phone via USB cable or Bluetooth? Especially with Android devices, because there is no snap-in for Android phones.
I am not referring to audio streaming, but actual playback with next/previous and playlist functionality.

It was just 3G in general at the time. It had a hard time penetrating the house walls. I'd step outside and it'd be fine. Trouble is I work from home so it's useless to me most of the time then. 4G is supposed to penetrate better but I've not yet gone for it. Verizon is the best coverage in the area though, that's for sure.

Looks like they finally fixed it, had a lot of complaints with OS5, but that was mainly on 4, not 4S.

Are you using BT or Snap-In? Or USB cable?

iPhone 4S and OS 5.0.1 and no issues. My 2011 was a 10/2010 build so I missed the ability to use BMW Apps. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought it and found a later 2011 build.
