2007 BMW X5 NAV screen is blacked out

Hello,
The navigation/display monitor on my bmw x5 is completely dark and is hardly readable. I can see the contents of the menu etc, with a flashlight. I took it to the dealer today and they say that the whole CID screen needs to be replaced. "Replace CID Screen Program and code". They are quoting $3000 for the same. Are there any shops that could do this for cheap? If this is something simple do I dare to do it myself???? Never worked on cars before..
The part number that they have mentioned to replace is 65-50-9-194-064.

Lcd backlight has failed. Only action is to get a new screen ..... Buy a used screen from eBay and replace yourself. Takes 5 minutes and does not require any coding / programming. They are lying to you.
