HD Radio Settings Help

Hello I have a 08 4.8i with premium sound. I went to try to turn on HD Radio as indicated in the manual.

Menu - Settings - Audio

I do not see the HD tab on the top only the regular bass, balance, sound etc.

Am I missing something? Please advise.

Thanks

You don't have HD radio. In '08, it was a seperate module, the IBOC module. If it doesn't show in your menu, you don't have it. You can retrofit it, find the module on ebay, and code the car.

Actually retrofitting the Iboc is tricky and since BMW never offered it ... There is a fair bit too this.

Add it to the most bus, ensure the fibre is lit and terminated. Modify fa (vehicle order) and that should be it

You also have to consider the antenna connection from the diversity antenna amplifier, as well as power to the Iboc itself. As I said, no retrofit from bmw means no cable harness ... so you have to source these all individually from the parts catalog. Personally I think it's easier (but more expensive) to replace the CCC with the USA CIC with its built in hd radio tuner/Iboc.

^^ It uses an antenna splitter which is a separate piece, but easily done. The existing harness should have spare power connectors. Several people have done this, see

Understood, but that guy choose not to install the IBOC in the OEM location, in the rear trunk area .. which was my point above about cables not there. Instead he choose to use the CD/DVD location since it has a MOST node and power available.

The splitters also have implications on RTTI, as that poster indicated.

Whatever works for folks I guess.
