'09 x5 Resale Value

Looking to see if anyone else has had the same luck I have with resale value on their x5. I am looking to upgrade/update the fleet and have taken my '09 48i Sport with every option (except 3rd row seating, active suspension and HUD). Sticker was $75,420. The most I can get any dealer up to is barely over $40k. The day I bought the x, I had it wrapped in the 3m paint protection film and I switched out the wheels/tires between spring and winter seasons. I realize I have 43,000 miles on the beast, but am I crazy to think that I should be closer to $45-50k on trade for a vehicle that has "best resale value in class" all over the advertisements and sales garbage they send to me?

Oh yeah, if anyone wants to buy it, let me know. :thumb up: $48k with 19" stock BMW wheels/Bridgestone RFTs AND 214 20's with BRAND NEW (~300 miles) Dunlop Sport Maxx RFTs. Silver/black color combo, active ventilated seats, sport, technology, premium, premium sound, comfort access, active steering, etc...

Residual values on 2012 models with 15k/year is around 56%. If the same applied to your vehicle, that would be $42k. So it sounds about right...

Depreciation...regardless of the mkting bs.
Only 7k left on orig warranty, and dlr would have to CPO it, to move it, or they would wholesale it out.
That residual math is right on.

Yeah that's about right on price from a dealer. Also working against you is the mileage.

^ what BGM said. Don't do it at the dealer. It's less hassle, yes, but it's also more painful for your wallet. My 08' 3.0si w/ 22k miles, book value privately seems to be $40k.

Privately you should expect $45k according to kbb.

One thing to consider on a trade-in, especially one worth that much is what you'll save in sales tax. Sometimes with a lot of sales tax rates near 9-10% you can save a good chunck of change in addition to your trade-in value.

I would like to know this as well. I'm going to switch if a 40D ever hits NA shores, right now I have 19k miles on m y '09 with every option except active ventilated seats.

Spot on.

The residual for leases DRIVES the market to that price! Why would a dealer give you more, when he can buy the lease turn ins all day long at residual? (Actually even lower)

Scott, I'm in the same position in that the stealer is trying to get me to practically give my X5 to them so that they can turn around and sell it with a $10k profit. All I'm looking for is "fair trade" value for an "outstanding car" as defined by Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds. They are trying to give me $6-8k LESS than what KBB or Edmunds suggest as fair price.

What did you end up doing with your car? Did you do private sale? I think I'm headed in that direction.

I ended up trading it and got $41k for it on trade. That was not with the "dealer game" of showing me the difference, etc. That is the price they would have given me if I were selling it to them outright. I took it to Carmax and they offered $40k, so I did OK. It was surprising to see a 2 year old SAV that was MINT and was over $70k new go for such a low price. I have been looking at new x5's and even some used (x5M) and they are getting a premium for them at the stealerships. Rightfully so, I guess, but it just seems like a big gap between what they get for them on the lot but what they will give you on trade.

FWIW, I would definitely try to sell it on your own. I was also trying to move my fully restored '69 Corvette and the highest offer I have had so far was $17k!!!
