Differences between E70 3.0d and xdrive30d

My wife and I are looking for a pre-LCI E70 3.0d, could someone please kindly advise whether there are any differences between the 2007 E70 3.0d and 2008 E70 xdrive30d in terms of performance and upgrades?

Is it just a rebadge from 3.0d to xdrive30d?

I assume they are both using the same diesel engine M57TU2D30 with 173kW and 520Nm or am I wrong to assume the 2007 E70 X5 3.0d is still using the old 3litre diesel engine from the previous generation E53?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks
Leon

Hi Ninja

I know a lot of time has passed since your original question - I stumbled upon your post while looking for an answer to the same question. Did you by any chance find an answer?

Cheers

That is incorrect. The xDrive is the same for all model years. It was a cosmetic update as BMW added "XDrive" designation to its AWD models

Thanks very much for the reply - you wouldn't happen to be able to link to an article explaining the difference in the vehicles' 4WD systems?

I've just come back from an Alpine x-Drive course and with the exception of the X6 the only major change to the x-Drive was back in the E53 X5 in 2002. Ever since then is been the same or similar hardware just with faster reacting software/hardware components.
The X6 has all the same x-drive features but with an additional torque splitting rear differiential

No, not really. I think engine and performance-wise is the same for all E70 pre-LCI, however there are subtle differences and a few minor updates between the earlier pre-LCIs (3.0d and xdrive30d) such as music USB plug, hold button for the handbrake etc.

Indeed, a few minor updates along with the introduction of the EfficientDynamics measures that led to less diesel consumption; 217 gr. CO2/Km instead of around 231 gr. CO2/Km for the first model years E70 diesels.
