doing some research on supplemental alarms/gps systems.

I'm thinking wouldn't it be really nice if the BMW factory alarm system came with a pager to notify you of unauthorized movement/theft attemp... and providing you with gps tracking capabilities via google maps if your vehicle is stolen.

right now we must rely on a blaring siren if we're close enough, and BMW assist to track the vehicle for us when it is stolen..

you would think these vehicles would come with their own pager and user tracking system...

there are a number of products out there that can do this but we're talking about at least two products that would need to be installed in order to have these features..

has anyone installed and/or looked into these products?

I came across gps tracking devices that plug into your obd port and provide real time coordinates that can be viewed on google maps...

but none provide remote pagers to notify you that a vehicle is being touched or in motion.. (which now requires us to purchase another product..)

Am I the only one that would like something like this? don't you think someone would have thought of this by now?

Unless i'm mistaken, the factory system only notifies you via siren/horn and if you need to track you call BMW Assist...

Does the system allow you to expand this system? anyone thought about this?

1. The factory systems has all the hardware/functionality you need. Software and programming is a whole 'nuther story....

2. Why? Not sure I've every read a post about someone getting their E70 X5 stolen.

3. Why doesn't BMW do it? Simple, liability/risk.

I wonder is there is a pager unit that can be added to the existing factory alarm system. someone must have figured out how to be remotely notified instead of relying on the vehicle siren.

You can just get an aftermarket pager alarm system installed on top of the factory system. There is a bypass that can be install which will enable you to control the factory alarm from the aftermarket remote.

Viper, Python, Avital are just a few brands that make a pager system.
