Buying advice - 2007 4.8 E70

Hi all,

I am new to the world of X5s having been split over the last few years between E38 E65 7s and Alpina E39s and E91s.

My wife and I thinking of consolidating my 750i and her Vauxhall Vectra (similar to Saturn Aura) in to a 2007 4.8iSE with 77k on the clock.

The car has a raft of additional options incluing media package, adaptive headlights and dynamic drive.

Are there any common failure points or things to look out for, especially on an early E70 or would we better going for a laetr E53 4.8is?

All ffedback most welcome. Thank you.

If the car checks out, I would go for it. 77k is a good mileage to buy if you can get it cheap enough. At that mileage you there's a lot of maintenance stuff that should be done along with a suspension refresh. Once you do all that, the car will feel great to drive.

Thanks for the feedback.

We went to look at the car at the weekend and it wasn't all that nice. After a couple of disappointments with a couple E53s we are getting a mid-2007 3.0d SE with 75k miles through BMW. It has all of the right options on it and is covered by 12 months warranty.

Should be picking it up on Saturday and driving it 250+ miles home. We are part exchanging my E65 750i for it so despite the excitement, there will be more than a tinge of sadness too.

Check the records /carfax to see if it had battery work. If the clock is not set then be cautious. Search battery drain on the forums. I recently bought an 08 and it was in the shop for a month to fix a battery drain issue. If its still under warranty it should be covered but they wont replace the battery unless you have persuasive speaking abilities. Also see if you here slight knocking noises in the front with sport package. That could be the stabilizer bar.
