I got 28.2 miles per imp gal out of my M-sport 35d, that's city driving and I tend to have a heavy foot. Also the X5's air-con is run all the time here in Queensland.

Its a bit lower than it should be due to all the addon options I have.

I have the 35i, not the diesel and am still impressed with the mileage. On the highway I average 25 to 26 mpg at around 70mph. City is around 19. Overall, it averages about 21 to 22. About 19k on the clock. Can't think of a better engine than a straight 6 turbo.

This X5 is ridiculous!!!

I took an X5 35i on a 500 mile round trip and averaged 26. The next week I took a 328i xdrive on the exact same trip and averaged 26. WOW. Should I try the diesel next?

Since the recall was performed in mid-May on my father's 35d, the throttle calibration or something related seems to have changed. Fuel consumption has increased about 10-15% and I do notice that the energy control gauge indicates higher levels of fuel consumption even though my throttle inputs/habits have not changed.

About a year ago my old 35d had the same upgrade in firmware and my fuel consumption went from 9.8ltr per 100klm to 10.3 per 100klm, this is mainly city freeway driving. I think thay gave it better throttle response when taking off from the traffic lights as my Highway per ltr consumption did not changed.

2012 X35d with less than 500 miles.

I just did half of a roundtrip from Orange County to San Jose up highway 5, which is almost 400 miles. I went approx 80-85mph for most of the trip. 2 adults with luggage, 100 degree temps outside so AC on the entire time. 24mpg.

I was a bit disappointed as when I first bought the car I was getting 28mpg going from Carlsbad to Mission Viejo (70 mi)...but that was late evening, driving solo, cool temps...and I'd guess that I was probably going closer to 75mph.

*update* drove back from Monterey down to OC today. Looks like at 80-90mph gets around 24mpg, 70-80 gets around 25-28mpg, and 50-70 around 29-30mpg...

does that sound right?

Also I filled up at a gas station where diesel was $3.69 while premium was $4.29
