haven't seen any in the for sale forum. If you say it's a bad deal at that price, what would a fair price/offer be? You see, in Canada, building a 2012 with similar options comes in at $90K. Used 2011s here don't have nearly the options (for some reason almost all of them have the M package but that's about it) and those that are for sale are 60-70K with 40K Kms (24K miles) on them. So buying cross border opens up the choices while allowing to save a bit. I wish I could build an 2012 in the US, use incentives and bring it back, but I can't. BMWNA rules.

Are you asking us if it is a good deal HERE or a good deal in Canada?

That's the problem- your particular situation makes OUR opinions useless.

You might explore some options for buying a new car in the usa. F 'bmw rules'...remember, they are BMWs rules and apply to dealers- NOT YOU.

I would imagine there are states that would allow you to buy a car without use tax...or states where someone can buy and then immediately sell a car (and not "use" it) and thereby avoid a use tax... the dealer types here go nuts with this kind of talk, but YOU just need to avoid any legal mistep- not a BMW misstep.

While you can try and force BMWNA's hand, getting your warranty honoured at a BMW dealer in Canada is at their discretion, so I don't think it is worth calling their bluff on a nearly new vehicle that is likely to require attention during the warranty period. You will already be giving up the prepaid maintenance, but the warranty is worth something IMO.

Just buy a used one.

Agreed JCL. Which is why I'm looking at Xs with some miles on them.

Ard you're correct in asking whether it's a good deal from a US or a Canadian perspective. From a Canadian perspective if I bought at their asking price it wold still be a significant savings over a more local purchase. However, knowing that there should be room for negotiation on the price (from a US perspective) i'm asking "what is a fair offer on said vehicle"?

You should be able to get a 2011 with 10,000 miles or so now for high $40's with the options that you are looking for. I purchased a 2011 x5d last year from the US (New York) and a X3(New Jersey) and the X5 was in the ballpark of $53,500 with 8200 miles. (6 month lease turn in). No issues bringing back and have been to the local dealer a few times for maintance and one warranty issue with no problems. I wouldnt be surprised if you could get a 2012 now for mid $50's or so with the options you want.

Thanks jamonge for the info. I have searched for 12s with the same options but so far come up empty handed. However, it gives me some idea of what to offer on the vehicle. I'll start at 48 and see where they go.

Incidentally, I used to live in Quispamsis
