Threads on last service before extended warranty

I thought I had threads on these topics marked now that I am one month away from the end of the factory warranty on my 2009 4.8. This is an old topic here about what to do on the last service call and which extended warranty to get. I just need the basic extended warranty but my local dealer insisted on the supreme non-BMW extended warranty.

Anyway, can someone help with links or keywords that would work better than my searches?

one of many: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-warranty.html

I would definitely get them to check your rotors/pads and if the pads are close, at least have them done (find a dealer who will if one won't).

"Insisted on"??????

Screw them.

GET IN CONTACT WITH A FEW SPONSORS..here or BF. You will be able to beat MSRP for sure on a PowerTrain Plus plan.

Unfortunately many, many dealers will NOT do anything to a car that doesn't have a (1) Symptom or, (2) CBS Indicator.... all will depend on the relationship with your SA over the years.

Usually I will inspect the car closely and put toether a punch list of any anomaly. "Weeping seal at XYZ" or "Radio presets whatever" or "rear hatch jerks when opening"...etc. I compose the text exactly as I want it listed in the Work Order. Even if they don't fix it, the WO creates an 'anchor' in time/mileage so that if it comes up later, I can argue the point. (If they tell you 'weeping is normal', insist that text be placed in their written response.)

I can't find the invoice, but they checked the pads about two months ago and said everything was okay.

Thanks for the links.

I got my 2004, 2008 and 2012 from the same dealer. I'm okay with the owner manager, and service adviser but the guy selling the extended warranty is a different animal.

I thought I kept all my service invoices together and will work to make that complete. I do have a written list and various photos and videos with dates but I want to make sure I get full advantage of the last regular service.

I am asking for help. I have 2 more weeks before the original warranty expires on my 2008 X5.

The dealer did not print this out for me, but to extend this warranty by BMW for only 1 year would cost $3,810. The next package from BMW cost $4,500 and covered more and lasted longer but he did not give me the print out so I don't know the details. This is Cooper BMW in Edmond, OK.

He then wanted me to buy the NAC Pinnacle that would add 36 months and cost $3,433. He did print out the NAC Powertrain that would cost $2,267 for 2 years.

The last quote is close to my search for $2K and 2 years, but he said without covering electronics that I would not be adequately covered. I am seeking protection from a major expense, not smaller ones that can be handled by another service company.

I have a 2012 X5 for major trips and the 2008 will essentially be a commute for my wife who is an elementary school teacher. I hesitate to go without any warranty because both my parents died in the last 12 minutes and they left a lot of debt which has most of my assets tied up for now.

I would appreciate advice and contact information for a way to move forward. The links up-thread have been helpful, but I am confused.

Thanks for the warning. I am not sure if it is the same company, but I found two BMW dealers outside OK that will give me a fair price on the BMW Powertrain Plus extended warranty. I expect to make the purchase on Monday.

Can someone tell me if my local dealer will still give me a loaner when I take in the 2008 X5 for extended warranty repair? I bought three X5s with them (and currently have a 2008 and 2012) but am not sure how they will react since they were so stubborn about getting me an extended warranty especially from BMW.

I have been getting loan cars for all of my cars, whether I purchased from this dealer or not, you should get loan cars and entitled to since you are a customer for the full life of the car... But all dealerships act different.

Sounds like the SA and others will treat you right...just this finance guy that is a dick.

I'd send a note to the GM (or voicemail) and point out how this person cost them the sale on the warranty. A good manager would recognize this is the first step in losing a customer. A smart one would respond with "sorry, as a gesture we will beat it by $XXX.'
