Which cord are you using? For that you should be using the BMW Y-cable and it will work fine.

I was just about to post the same thing. I have a question about the Y cable. I have an 09 X5 that I just picked up today. It came w/ the included Y cable. It doesn't seem the USB is providing any power though. When I go to the Aux input, it doesn't let me select USB to get to the ipod menu. The ipod only plays as if it were connected thru the AUX input, not USB. It will also not charge. Any ideas how to fix this?

I tried plugging in a regular USB cable and plugging that into my phone to see if the light would light up as if it were charging and that did nothing as well

No I have everything I need, the USB port just isn't working correctly I think. It won't even let me pick it under the AUX menu when something is plugged into it.

Do a search here about the cables...I want to say that there are two of them based on model year and option..they have different part numbers and I remember converstaions about the wrong ones not providing power and data correctly...

There's at least three (in order from old to newer).
#1 61120440645
#2 61120440796
#3 61120440812

#1 does not work with newer iPods/iPhones. It apparently has some "hanging up" and "not charging" issues too (reported by others).
#2 works perfectly in my 2008 X5 with 6FL option (all iPods & iPhones).
#3 should be all good too.

Well I supposed I have the 2nd cable there. On the black box, my numbers say: 0440796.

I don't see the 6112 in front of those numbers. Is that wrong?
