BMW Warranty Work - ? on headlights

I have a 09 X5 and the headlight covers are fogged up hazed over. Does anyone know if this would be covered under warranty if I were to make a customer complaint? I am about 4k miles from running the warrnaty running out.

I appreciate anyones feedback or help.

I think they would probably consider that as "wear & tear". Good news that it's a relatively cheap fix-- Wal-mart or your local auto store should sell a headlight restoration kit for about ~$20 and is essentially just fine grit sandpaper + plastic polish.

I had the same experience with my 2006 325... three different dealers denied it even though it was clear there were stress cracks in the headlights.

If the headlights have become yellowed due to UV, it is a defect int he material BMW chose... they have a duty to select materials that will withstand the expected conditions of the environment into which they sell the product.

But it will all depend on how you approach you SA and his attitude.

I had both mine replaced under warranty at around 45k. Wasn't to hard to get approval if I recall correctly

^^ The key is that your primary complaint should not be related in any way to pitting or external damage- must be internal hazing/fogging/discoloration.

It also helps if you have a good relationship with your SA.

I only bring in my car to the dealer on those days that my SA is in and asks for him when i show up, always works to my favor 99.9%....
