2009 vs 2010 X5 Diesel

Hi all,

Currently have a 05 3.0 X5 but am looking to trading up to a Diesel X5
Currently looking at 2009 X5 with all the bell & whistles.
However for 10k more i can get a 2010 model

The only difference i can see is that the IDrive system is different. Are there any other differences between the years?

Thanks

nz= New Zealand????

No difference in drivetrain.

In 2009 the Sport included Adaptive Drive.
In 2010 the Sport deleted AD, and to get AD you needed to order it as a stand alone option

Yes, IDrive is different, you can upgrade for less than 10k (around 4k?), but it is pretty involved. Unless you can DIY, it will be hard to find qualified shops with this experience.

I believe 2010 (the LCI) has revised taillights, front and rear bumpers plus more importantly 8 speeds gearbox and revised diesel engine. (180kw compared with 160kw)

Personally I would get the LCI version than 2009, the 8 speed gearbox is worth the extra.

Yes I would go with a LCI model, the 8 speed gearbox is great and coupled with the diesel the fuel economy is pretty good.

I got a silly trade for my current X5 and couldn't gulp the additional 10k. Was hoping for a better deal. So the 09 it is!!
Collecting it in a week
I was told i needed the special IPOD cable to hook up my iphone. is this the case or can i use my generic ipod cable and connect to the usb connector

evne the 2012 diesel still has the 6 speed. Only the gasser has the 8 speed.

(unless it's different in NZ)

That's correct, the cable splits from the phone to usb & a audio jack, here a picture

Yes, different in NZ, Australia and elsewhere. LCI update brought 8-speed and 40d, replacing the 35d.
