You need to check with your dealership whether you have all the options required. I think its 6NF and one other. There are a couple different cradles for the current iPhone so you need to check which one will work also.

Only the later model X5's will play the music via the iPhone cradle. I prefer to use my iPod via the cable or a USB stick, this way it keeps my iPnone free.

you should see if you can get the dealer to throw in the cable for free since you are buying the car from them.

whats $120 to them to help get you across the line.

Can the user settings - eg seat position, mirrors etc be programmed on the on-board computer for each key or does the dealer need to do this?
thanks

it's on the key and storing the seat positions and mirrors are as simple as inserting the key and pressing the memory button on the side of the seat. The key also stores the stereo settings as well, and the memory buttons 1-8 under it. I only noticed this the first time I used the spare and discovered none of my stored stations were on it!

6FL (which is the USB port which you obvious have) and 6NR (smartphone integration)

This was available in 09 but is a special option. If optioned and you buy the correct cradle (I have a spare for the iPhone 4s ... Shameless plug) it will play music.
