Chuck

I know, I'm just trying to help him too.

is it my UPPERCASE words? I just want to make sure he has enough info to find his way to a solution. Not an argument.

I really think that the dealer never installed his harness and never coded his car when they installed the hitch- and now are just scamming him out of an extra $660.

Don't give up, help me with your diagram. I sent a letter to BMW NA and the principal of the dealership to help resolve the issue fairly and fast.
I am willing to solve it without them If I can. I have a DE weekend at RA this Saturday so I would like it fixed ASAP.

Two questions if I may:

1. Did they confirm that the ORIGINAL hitch install included the HARNESS and the PROGRAMMING?

2. What specific part number will they install now for the new $660 fee?

Based on your post, it sounds like you are being told that the hitch install never included a harness nor any programming? Chuck is saying there is no brake CONNECTION...but this is not the same as saying 'no harness nor programming'... AFAIK, unless the car is coded it will never work properly. As stated, once you have the SIB for the install that was applicable to your install, youi have all the ammo you need....

In order to get my wireless bc to work I used the plug that is included in the kit and jumpered two wires together. I think it was the big red one to the yellow with black stripe.

That's what I did last year to make it work. I cut two of the 4 plug wires by the fuse box and jumper the red and yellow together. After reading other posts though people haven't had to do this and it is always hot in this solution - I'm worried the battery will drain.

Not sure what they did, I will check the invoice and try to find part numbers.

It can't drain the battery unless the circuit is completed. The circuit shouldn't be complete until you plug the trailer in so you shouldn't have a problem

Correct. My concern is that it's plugged in for 4-5 days in total. Assuming nothing is drawing power I should be ok...
