Someone hit my 2013
Car has been flatbedded to BMW Body shop near home and awaiting final damage report later today. Here are some questions if any of you can help... How bad does this sound? Is it possible to get additional depreciation money for now having a car with suspension/frame work? If they offer to "repair" instead of replace, do I have grounds to fight to have new parts including the new 20" damaged wheel/tire? thanks in advance. Young |

yes, if you pester them, and can show some logic in how you calculated it..........insurance will pay out "diminished value"

Are you pressing a claim with the party that hit you?
IOf you are going through YOUR insurance they will NOT honor a "DV" or Diminished Value claim. A DV claim will take significant work. You will almost certainly NOT be able to force a 'replacement'...you would need to have ~ $30-35k worth of damage. First thing? Find out what they say it wrong and how much it will cost. Post a picture. The problem I have found is that BMW dealers are really poor when it comes to this stuff- they can fix codes and errors, and align the car- but damage to the frame/body that doesn't manifest as 'damaged paint' or otherwise obvious signs can be a challenge. The only cosmetic damage was the wheel and nothing else. Luckily the giant 20" wheel took all the damage. Dealer has started the work by refinishing my wheel and sending to service for alignment to see what will go wrong after alignment. I am just hoping for the best and I won't have any future issues.
Will keep posted. Thanks. |

I would think 10MPH hit wouldnt bend the frame... People have smacked the curb harder in that area and not bent the frame, I bet a few suspension components might need to be fixed, but otherwise i'd bet youre going to be ok

Thats foolish- new wheel certainly. A refinish is not factory durable. imo |

Interesting..Texas? There is a state that does have DV requirements, Georgia maybe???? (But their commonly used DV formula is a silly "10% of the repairs" metric (or something like that) but at least they acknowledge the concept.) Let me ask, did you just spitbally "I want $10k" and they said sure? Did YOU need to develop the cost basis for the claim, appraisals, etc.... then submit and wait for the other insurance to agree? Or did they pay your DV claim independently of the other insurance agreeing? If I may ask, what kind of car and what kind of number were we talking about? Sorry for the OT, but I am genuinely interested to hear... A |
