Looking at E70 X5s -- Tips?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum as I am starting to look into purchasing an E70 X5. From what I know, I am interested in the 4.8 with the Sport pkg, preferably a 2008 or 2009. Other desirable options would be the technology package and convenience package.

I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan where we get plenty of snow. I've owned two Jeep Grand Cherokees that have been great vehicles, but am ready for something different.

Any tips? Things to look for? Avoid? If there is a sticky on this, feel free to point me there.

Thanks in advance!

in the model years you are looking for, the 3.0si is great. More fuel efficient and cheaper to maintain than the v8. Try a roadtest you'll be surprised.

lots of snow = avoid the 20" tires from factory which are likely Dunlop SportMaxx summer tires. But with an '08 or '09 I'm not sure how many still have those original summer tires - depends on mileage. You can always swap to all-season 20s if it's not deep snow and don't want to give up the look. Personally I don't like the idea of swapping wheels twice a year and having to store them, or giving up the look for so many months. I've done perfectly fine, here.

Definitely do the sport package from those years though, as it includes adaptive drive.
