M poser
I pulled into a gas station a few days ago and there was a X5 at the front pump ahead of me. It was about a 2012 X5 3.5 Sport. On the rear hatch there was a M Logo ahead of the X5. After a few minutes thought I walked up to the gentleman pumping gas and said "nice car". He said thanks. I then said "is that a M version?". He said yes and pointed vaguely to the wheels and flairs. I said "oh I have a car just like yours and mine isn't a M and politely walked back to my car.
Would you confront a car poser? I think its like putting a Phd after your name if your not one.

What's even worse is I went and looked at an X5 "M" at a local used car lot. They sure wanted M money, but it wasn't an M. Just the logo on the hatch. I told the guy it wasn't and he got all pissed and told me to leave. I turned him into the state dealer board. Fraud as far as I'm concerned. It was a 5.0, but not an M.

The poser are running rampant these days. So much that it has the attention of good old Donald. lol.
As an M3 owner myself, I'm not sure if I would confront a poser in the giving situation. However, If I did, I would probably ask a question unique to the M variant such as what's the top speed on the tach, and if he or she said anything less than 200 mph and it's a late model BMW, I would immediately walk away ![]() ![]() There are those that fail to or don't want to understand that M trim does not equal a true M car. |

I'm sure Donald will come up with a good penalty for those in violation ![]() No, I would not consider people with M trim to be posers unless they go around saying they have the M motor under hood and the M suspension, or items that are truly unique to only M cars. HAH! Putting "M" components on your vehicle isnt blasphemous. Only putting an M badge on your vehicle and telling everyone its an M. Those guys are D-Bags.

I really think you meant to say the speedometer, tachometer is of course, for engine speed (rpm's).

Probably wouldn't confront them. Someone trying to sell an M when it's not, definitely yes.

He could have bought it like that and under the guise of it being an M!

I can't believe that anyone who is interested enough to buy an X5 or especially an M version would be fooled by a badge. And even if the buyer did get sucked in any mechanic would eventually know the difference and a law suit would result. So that leaves the majority that knowingly drive around in vehicles which are not what they present themselves to be. M-posters! When I said confront I didn't mean to get in their face, I just wanted them to politely know I am aware of their ruse.
